Holy Land Poppies. W: 19 in x H: 16 in. 2013
Quilting Arts Magazine ran a Reader’s Challenge: Come up with a quilt that fits the theme “In the Garden”. There were more than 150 submissions and 12 “winners”. My quilt, “Wild Poppies” made the cut and appears in the June-July 2014 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.
Israel’s national flower is the poppy. In the spring, fields are carpeted with these amazing wild flowers of red petals with black centers. I had this in mind when I composed me latest needle felt design, which I call ” Field of Poppies”.
It’s made of a medley of wool fibers sculpted together in a soothing composition. I hope you like it.

I can actually call this an art quilt now. I spent time arranging my fall-color leaves on a fabric canvas. Then, using thread painting, I added veins to the leaves and pebbles to the background. It’s a nice, quick project that came out well.

I needed a break from the landscape project, so I worked with fall-color maple leaves and made a mini-wall hanging.

I went back to the landscape with new energy and ideas and here is a photo showing what it looks like after some thread painting has been applied. Keep in mind that this the sixth version of this landscape. Sometimes it requires a lot of stick-to-it-iveness to get the job done!
Now that I have some fall leaves — albeit in fabric, I shall make an Art Quilt from it. Watch for it! I will soon post it on eBay. I will need to thread paint the veins of the leaves and … Well, you’ll see it soon enough. It’s a nice, fun project. I love quilting.
I thought I’d try to do something new, having autumn in mind. So I went looking for maple leaves. Well, the tree across from us is a maple tree, but it’s still green. That’s what happens when you live in the Middle East. Never mind, I can imagine fall colors — that’s what makes it an art quilt.
