Great for travel gifts this summer: Brand new handmade, insulated, quilted trivets. They are lightweight and lovely and totally useful! What a thoughtful gift. Beautiful star pattern trivet, made with special insulated batting to protect your table and counter top surface from heat and cold. This trivet is a functional and charming addition to your kitchen because it reflects the heat or cold away from your table. Round star design. Made from three beautiful batik cotton fabrics. Matching binding. Fully washable. Lay trivet flat while air drying. Each trivet is sold individually. Makes a lovely wedding gift when bought in matching sets (as shown in 3rd image). Dimensions: 9 1/2″ / 24cm diameter This is a sample of a set of trivets I made as a wedding gift. I will customize each piece according to your color specifications. Just let me know your color needs! You can write to me here if you are local or purchase your new trivets via my Etsy shop.

I was recently approached to take one of my art quilt wall hanging designs, In the Forest, and enlarge it to 52″ x 43″. The buyer debated the size for a long time and ultimately, many emails later, decided she wanted the design to be double the size of the original. That’s not so hard, right? Wrong. The design has a 3-dimensional quality, which I needed to maintain while doubling the size. The challenge was that now she wanted the quilt to be longer than it is wide, exactly the opposite of the original orientation. I decided the best way would be to make a map of the enlarged quilt. Here is a photo of the map I worked up. Next, I started to put together the strips. When sewing long strips the challenge is to keep everything straight. The longer the strip the more likely the fabric will stretch or that it will be off just a little by the time you reach the bottom. Well, if you do a few strips, that isn’t so bad, but the entire quilt is composed of strips of different widths. I worked painstakingly to keep everything straight. I put sections together, measuring […]

I put sections together, measuring each section to make sure it was even at the top and bottom before attaching it to the next section. Finally I attached all the sections and this is the top I made.

Next I made my quilt sandwich; that’s a top, batting and back. I set it on the dining room table to baste it. I got the usual groans from my family for taking over the table…
Here are some shots of the basted quilt.

Finally I quilted the piece. I have a wonderful sewing machine with lots of bells and whistles, but it is not a long-arm sewing machine. Fitting a quilt this large within the throat of the machine is hard work — hard to manipulate and no small challenge for my back muscles…
Here is a photo of the quilted and bound wall hanging. I’m really happy with the result. The buyer has just sent me payment and I will mail it to her in the US today! I sent her photos along the way and she is very excited. She promised me she would take a photo of the quilt once it is hung on her wall.

P.S. This is the message I received from my happy customer:
“Your amazing piece of artwork arrived 5 minutes ago!!! It is safe and gorgeous!!!! I will hopefully have it hanging tonight!!! I will email you a picture. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you!!! I’ll be in touch.”
So rewarding when people are happy with my work.

All the posts appear in the Quiltsy Blog.I took a photo of my block on a windy day while standing in front of the ancient wall at Tel Tzora, Israel, famous for Samson and Delilah, which is just a few minutes from our house. Wikipedia writes: “Samson is believed to have been buried in Tel Tzora in Israel overlooking the Sorek valley. There reside two large gravestones of Samson and his father Manoah. Nearby stands Manoah’s altar (Judges 13:19-24). It is located between the cities of Tzorah and Eshtaol.”

Each time someone posts a block, she sends a photo with the block within a scene indigenous to her home.

I visited Northern Israel over Sukkot and was inspired by scenes around the Jordan River. The view was breathtaking. I decided to create one of the scenes in fabric. It’s an impressionistic rendering, but I think you will agree you can wade through the water to the edge of the trees. I used cotton fabric to create this quilt art. The batting is cotton as well. If you are interested in purchasing it, contact me here or via my Etsy shop, where you will see other pieces of mine that are also up for sale. Here is a photo of “By the Lake”. Enjoy!

My newest inspiration, with Chanukah on it’s way, is a Challah Cover made from a Watercolor Motif. I think it came out really lovely. I used 120 different 2″ squares to assemble this piece topped with gold lame candlesticks. I think it makes an elegant wedding gift or perhaps you are looking to perk up your own Shabbot table. Treat yourself to this unique, handmade intricate piece of art that is both functional and beautiful. In addition it is practical and is easily cared for. You can also hang it on the wall if you don’t want to risk putting it on the table. If you want to make one of these yourself contact me. I am now offering a class in Watercolor challah covers! The class will meet for 6 hours (3 sessions of 2 hours) and I will supply the materials. Contact me for additional details. 052-337-4078. Learn the technique and make a matching table runner on your own. Available at my Etsy shop.
