I hope my love for each of them and their connection to each other shows through in this work. In my own way, I guess I find a way to surround myself with color and light.
 
I decided to use dark and super vivid colors for this piece. I surrounded the bright pinks and reds with dark blues, purple and black. I sewed strips to form traditional blocks and then I slashed them and reattached them in unexpected ways. I did not pay attention to the outcome, I just re-arranged the parts until I had a 15″ x 15″ finished block at the end.

Hanging on the wall in the background is a charcoal portrait by her granddaughter, Tali Perlman Ohana. In the scene, the woman's late husband and the puppets are indeed "watching over" her.
 
Memorializing the story of this photo was very important to the family. When the family was presented with the quilt, they were moved to tears. They said, "Cindy's quilt captured the essence of the subjects and particularly 'nailed' the glow of Dad's face!"
