Jerusalem Post features quilting in Israel

The Jerusalem Post weekend supplement, In Jerusalem, featured an article on 20 September 2017, “Quilting Puts Israel on the Map.” The article discusses the Israel Quilters Association and also quotes Elsy Menko, the chairwoman of the organization of quilters in Israel. In addition the article discusses the current exhibit, “Home,” which is showing for a few more days at the Jerusalem Theater.

A portion of the article is devoted to interviewing me as well and a photo showing my 2nd place winning quilt is included in the article. “Put up Your Feet and Take It Easy,” is a quilt showing my family members lounging in our living room together. Family is the epitome of Home for me! I find feet to be particularly expressive and this is the second quilt I have done involving feet that won a prize. The first quilt, called Sole Mates, is a quilt of my daughter and son-in-law as they stood together at a family gathering. Sole Mates is showing early November at the International Quilt Association 2017 exhibit, “Hands All Around” in Houston.

Featured Article in Art Quilting Studio

Art Quilting Studio just released their Summer 2017 issue and I have a featured article in the current magazine. It’s so exciting to see my work in print and to share my techniques. My article contains photos of “Sole Mates” and “Discovery”. These two pieces have won prizes and have been exhibited internationally. “Sole Mates” will be showing in the International Quilt Festival in Houston in November 2017. “Discovery” is currently part of a SAQA exhibit in Europe.

I am really pleased with the article. It’s a high-level periodical that comes out twice a year. It is sold on news stands if anyone wants to get a copy. There are great articles and I am proud to have mine among them. More information about the issue is here:

I’ve been published in Art Quilting Studio Magazine

Art Quilting Studio magazine just came out with their Winter 2013 issue and guess what? I have a three-page spread in this issue. The topic of my piece is “From Photos to Quilts” where I discuss the process of creating quilts based on photos I have taken.
Here is the table of contents. It’s a quality trade magazine available at books stores, newsstands & online.

Quilting Arts Magazine published my art quilt. Our cat is famous!

The Dec / Jan issue of Quilting Arts Magazine features the Pet Peeves Challenge. The magazine accepted many of the small quilts that were sent in for the challenge and printed photos of the quilts. I am pleased to share this link to the magazine, which shows the table of contents of this issue.

The staff of Quilting Arts Magazine decided to include many of the quilts they received for the “Greatest Pet Peeve” Reader Challenge” in the Dec/Jan 2011 issue. So, I am happily mailing my quilt off to the magazine. I’ll keep you posted. I’m very excited at the prospect of seeing my work in print. Friskers, the main character of my cat-scape was thrilled as well. She was rewarded with some tuna. She didn’t ask why, she just ate it all…

Hadassah Magazine included an article about quilting in Israel in the current June / July 2011 edition of the magazine. They interviewed me with an emphasis on my personal connection to quilting. I hope you enjoy the article!

A turquoise blue Sea of Galilee seems to almost shimmer in a quilt by Cindy Richard, an American ola who translates Israeli landscapes into fabric form. In another quilt, the blooming pink of almond trees lines a quiet, curved path.

“My passion is for taking photos around the country and converting those scenes to the art. I love when people say, ‘That’s fabric?’” said Richard (www.cindyrquilts.com), who came to Israel from New York.

Distressed by Israel’s often negative image in the world, she said, “This is my way of showing some of the beauty found here in a very apolitical way.”

Richard is one of some 300 members of the Israel Quilters Organization (www.israeli-quilt.com). In towns and cities, members gather for quilting sessions and there are even two quilting shops in the country. Later this year, their annual exhibit will feature quilts celebrating the theme of kibbutzim in honor of the movement’s centennial. Richard’s contribution is a quilt depicting the view of Mount Gilboa from the fields of Kibbutz Shluhot in the Jordan Valley. —Dina Kraft
